Bruce Bartholow is a Professor and Ketchel Family Chair in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of Iowa, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. His research focuses on the interplay of cognitive control and salience in self-regulation, particularly in the context of alcohol use disorder, social categorization, and psychophysiological mechanisms. He leads the Social Cognitive and Addiction Neuroscience (SCAN) Lab, investigating neural and behavioral processes underlying addiction and social bias.
Research areas include alcohol sensitivity’s role in addiction risk, neurocognitive mechanisms of problematic drinking, and the neural bases of social categorization. Training areas span Behavioral & Cognitive Neuroscience, Clinical Science, and Cognition. Key research groups affiliated with him are Cognitive Control, Developmental Psychopathology, and Social Psychology.
