Brooke Max is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN. Their work focuses on the mathematical preparation of elementary teachers, with research interests in Mathematics Education, Geometry, Problem Posing, and Approximations of practice in teacher education.
Max earned a BS in Mathematics Education from Purdue University in 2003 and an MA in Curriculum & Instruction from Olivet Nazarene University. They completed a PhD in Mathematics Education at Purdue in 2018 as an Andrews Fellow. Prior roles include teaching in Houston, Texas (2003–2005) and rural Indiana (2005–2013) through Teach For America and eight years in K–12 education.
Their publications analyze curricular design, syllabi messaging, and pedagogical strategies for elementary and secondary teacher preparation. Current projects include coordinating mathematics content courses for elementary teacher candidates and supporting College of Science majors in the Great Issues requirement. Key themes in their research include mathematical disposition, equity in pedagogy, and aligning teacher education with national standards.
Scientific awards include the Andrews Fellowship at Purdue University (2014). Collaborative work spans national surveys on teacher education and conceptual syntheses on approximations of practice in mathematics instruction.
