Brock Guthrie is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Alabama, where he has taught since 2008. His academic specialties include Creative Writing, Composition & Rhetoric, and Literature, with a focus on American and British literary traditions. He also engages with Digital Humanities and Critical Theory. Guthrie teaches courses such as EN408: “The Long Poem” and EN408: “Humor in Poetry,” alongside composition and poetry workshops.
His literary work centers on poetry, with publications in journals like Cimarron Review, Los Angeles Review, and The Southern Review. His debut poetry collection, Contemplative Man (Sibling Rivalry Press, 2014), has garnered acclaim for its blend of humor, candidness, and wisdom, exploring themes of working-class life and existential inquiry.
Education: MFA in Poetry from Louisiana State University (2007), MA in English from Ohio University (2004). Guthrie is also affiliated with the Strode Program and has contributed to the field of Linguistics/TESOL.
