Britt Ransom is an Associate Professor of Art at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Art. Her practice explores human-animal-environmental relationships through sculpture, installations, and digital fabrication. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Emma S. and Reverdy C. Ransom Foundation and Freedom to Grow Legacy Center in New Orleans. Ransom holds a BFA in Art and Technology (2008) from The Ohio State University and an MFA in Electronic Visualization/New Media (2011) from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Her research focuses on systematic approaches to artmaking, often combining digital mesh processes with ecological themes. Notable exhibitions include Louisiana State University, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, and Schering Stiftung (Berlin). She has held residencies including the Joan Mitchell Center and LACI Residency, and chaired SIGGRAPH’s Studio and Art Gallery in 2017/2019.
Ransom’s writings analyze intersections between technology, biology, and art, published in Antennae, Leonardo Journal, and Routledge Handbook on Biology in Art. Her work bridges digital innovation with ecological consciousness, emphasizing materiality and interspecies entanglements.
