Her current externally funded research projects examine culturally responsive and structured approaches to early literacy learning in New Zealand schools, support for older students with literacy difficulties, and connecting effective literacy teaching across the curriculum.
Analysis of Professor McNeill's recent publications reveals a strong emphasis on structured literacy teaching, implementation science in educational settings, and the intersection of language development with literacy acquisition. Her work consistently addresses practical applications of research in classroom settings, with particular attention to children with speech and language challenges. The research demonstrates methodological diversity, including longitudinal studies, large-scale implementation research, and innovative assessment approaches.
