Bridget Gelms

Bridget Gelms is an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature at San Francisco State University. She earned her Ph.D. in Composition & Rhetoric from Miami University and joined SF State in 2018. Her research centers on the rhetorical dimensions of social media and digital culture, with specific focus on platform rhetorics, technofeminist approaches, and online harassment.

Her scholarly work has appeared in Computers & Composition, enculturation, Present Tense, and The Writing Center Journal. Research topics include volatile visibility in online spaces, methodological challenges in social media research, infrastructural storytelling for environmental justice, and redefining professionalism in technical communication.

Gelms actively contributes to university initiatives including the College Undergraduate Research Experience, Sexual Violence Prevention Collaborative, and English Department's Racial Justice Working Group. She teaches in both the Professional Writing & Rhetoric undergraduate major and the graduate Composition program.
