Brian Wilhelm is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Montreal. He leads the High-throughput Genomics Research Unit at the Institut de recherche en immunologie et en cancérologie (IRIC). His research focuses on leveraging cutting-edge genomic technologies to study transcriptional regulation in cancer, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
Education: PhD in Medical Genetics from the University of British Columbia (2003). Postdoctoral training at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute (UK) and the IRIC under Dr. Guy Sauvageau. Established his lab in 2010.
Research interests include: high-throughput sequencing (RNA-seq, ATAC-seq), epigenetic mechanisms in cancer, yeast (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) as a model system, and identifying therapeutic targets in AML. His team collaborates on projects funded by CRSNG, FRSQ, Terry Fox Research Institute, and industry partners.
Key awards: FRSQ Career Awards (J1/J2), Cole Foundation grants, and NSERC fellowships. Over 20 research grants since 2010, totaling millions in funding. Supervised 4 doctoral/master’s students listed here.
