Brian Tattitch is an Assistant Professor at Oregon State University and holds the Barrow Family Chair in Mineral Resource Geology. He also serves as an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia's School of Earth Sciences. His research focuses on fluid inclusions in minerals to understand hydrothermal systems, ore deposits, and volcanic processes. He earned a PhD in Geology from the University of Maryland (2012).
His work bridges disciplines such as magmatic fluid evolution, geothermal reservoir modeling, and volcanic hazard monitoring. Key projects include a BHP-funded study on high-grade porphyry Cu-Au deposits and experimental techniques for characterizing extreme hydrothermal fluids. Collaborations span institutions in 10+ countries, including the University of Bristol and the Geologic Survey of Japan.
He leads the Kupferschiefer Project (2023–2026), aiming to refine mineral systems models for high-grade ore deposits. His lab expertise includes high-temperature/pressure experiments to simulate magmatic-hydrothermal environments.
