Research explores how Lyme disease spirochetes use c-di-GMP signaling, nucleoid-associated proteins, and environmental sensing to coordinate virulence factor expression across tick-mammal transitions. Key projects include NIH-funded investigations of PlzA, BpuR, and DnaA regulatory systems.
Publications reveal expertise in bacterial surface protein regulation (e.g., OspC, Erp adhesins), operon control mechanisms, and spirochete genome evolution. Current work examines genomic diversity in Canadian B. burgdorferi strains.
Lab welcomes undergraduate researchers and maintains collaborative networks across Lyme disease research communities. Social media presence at microscopist.net shares research updates and educational content.
