Dr. Brian Snyder is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Sciences at Louisiana State University, part of the College of the Coast & Environment. He holds a BS from the University of Maryland (2002) and a PhD from the University of Georgia (2013). His research focuses on climate policy, carbon dioxide removal, energy systems, and socio-ecological interactions. Snyder has published extensively on topics ranging from offshore wind energy economics to climate justice in sub-Saharan Africa.
Recent work includes analyzing financial liabilities of unplugged oil wells in the Gulf of Mexico and developing biomass slurry injection as a low-cost carbon sequestration method. He teaches courses like ENVS 1010 (Coastal Environmental Science) and ENVS 4261 (Energy and the Environment). Snyder’s interdisciplinary approach integrates socio-economic factors with ecological considerations, addressing challenges like energy transition costs and pandemic vulnerability assessments.
He collaborates on projects such as Louisiana’s petrochemical corridor carbon capture modeling and ecosystem service valuations for Neotropical wetlands. His research often intersects legal frameworks (e.g., climate easements) and policy design, emphasizing equitable solutions for global environmental challenges.
