Brian Richards is a Senior Research Associate in the Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS). His research focuses on soil-water interactions, contaminant fate and transport, and the environmental impacts of agricultural and bioenergy systems. Richards holds a Doctorate (1999), Master of Professional Studies (1982), and Bachelor of Science (1979) from Cornell University.
Key research areas include soil emissions from agricultural practices, bioenergy cropping systems, and pesticide transport dynamics. He has received the Partnership Award for Mission Integration (2008) for collaborative work on soil and water systems. Richards teaches courses such as BEE 3299/5299: Sustainable Development, emphasizing life cycle sustainability assessments (LCSA) for environmental and societal impacts.
He is affiliated with the Soil and Water Lab and has been featured in news articles highlighting student-led engineering projects at Cornell's Agricultural Experiment Station. His work addresses critical challenges in sustainable agriculture, water quality, and environmental stewardship.
