معرفی
Brian Richard Smith, MD, is a Professor of Laboratory Medicine, Biomedical Engineering, Medicine, and Pediatrics at Yale University, serving as Deputy Dean for Clinical and Translational Research at Yale School of Medicine. He chairs the Department of Laboratory Medicine and holds leadership roles at Yale New Haven Hospital and other affiliated institutions. His clinical expertise spans hematology, oncology, and laboratory medicine, with a focus on translational research in inflammation, biomaterials, and cellular immunotherapeutics. Dr. Smith has over 175 publications and has secured continuous NIH funding for 35+ years. He pioneered the Physician-Scientist residency pathway with the American Board of Pathology and oversees core facilities in immune monitoring, flow cytometry, and clinical sample acquisition. His educational contributions include developing training programs for physician-scientists and mentoring over 50 trainees. Awards include the Evans Award for Outstanding Contributions to Laboratory Medicine (2010) and leadership roles in professional societies.
Education:
- B.A. in Chemistry, Princeton University (1972)
- M.D., Harvard Medical School (1976)
- Residency/Fellowship: Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Research Interests:
Dr. Smith’s research bridges basic science and clinical practice, focusing on the inflammation-hemostasis interface, biomaterials, and cellular therapies for blood disorders. He leads translational studies across T1-T4 research, including clinical trials and epidemiological analyses. His work emphasizes integrating engineering and AI to advance diagnostics and therapeutics. Recent studies include leveraging next-generation sequencing to predict AML survival outcomes and developing guidelines for flow cytometry in lymphoma diagnostics.
