Richard Torres

Richard Torres, MD, MS, BS, is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. He serves as Medical Director of both the Immunology Laboratory and Flow Cytometry Laboratory. Dr. Torres specializes in hematopathology and molecular diagnostics, with board certifications in Anatomic & Clinical Pathology and Hematology. His clinical expertise includes diagnosing hematologic malignancies through flow cytometry and next-generation sequencing.

He holds a BS from Stanford University, MD from Yale University, completed residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, and fellowships at Yale School of Medicine. His research focuses on developing advanced diagnostic technologies including multiphoton microscopy (Clearing Histology with MultiPhoton Microscopy - CHiMP), AI-powered computational pathology, and 3D tissue imaging techniques.

Dr. Torres leads a research laboratory that pioneers innovations in tissue processing, non-linear microscopy, and digital pathology. His team develops high-speed imaging systems and deep learning algorithms for automated analysis of blood smears, tissue biopsies, and cellular morphology.
