Brian Raison is a Professor and Extension Field Specialist at The Ohio State University, split between 80% Extension work and 20% affiliation with the Department of Agricultural Communication, Education, and Leadership. He holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Extension Education from The Ohio State University, an M.A. in Sociology from Ohio University, and a B.S. in Business from The Ohio State University.
His research focuses on Leadership Development, Organizational Capacity Building, Instructional Strategies, and Local Food Systems. Recent projects include analyzing virtual farmers markets, racial equity initiatives in extension programs, and homeless shelter food production systems. He actively contributes to Ohio State Extension's leadership networks and community development initiatives.
Raison has advised graduate students including Erin Ruggiero, Alyssa Stephens, and Christina Vail. His work emphasizes practical educational strategies for diverse audiences, combining academic rigor with actionable community solutions. Key areas of engagement include innovative extension event design, food council convening, and leveraging technology for rapid knowledge sharing.
He coordinates programs like the OSU Extension Leadership Network and develops assessment frameworks for horticulture education. His writings explore topics from farm-to-hospital supply chains to the sociological dimensions of peace-building through community portraits.
