Tyler Mason is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Horticulture & Landscape Architecture at Oklahoma State University (OSU). He serves as the Small Farms and Urban Horticultural Food Crop Production Systems Extension Specialist, focusing on bridging research and practical applications in vegetable production. His roles include academic teaching, extension outreach, and collaborative research.
Education: Ph.D. in Horticulture (Colorado State University, 2020), M.S. in Agriculture (Extension Education, Colorado State University, 2016), B.S. in Agricultural Education (Purdue University, 2011). Certifications include Produce Safety Grower Training through the Produce Safety Alliance.
Research Interests: Expanding knowledge on organic and low-chemical-input horticultural practices, sustainable agricultural development, and vegetable production systems. Focus areas include crop inputs, genotypes, and production practices across conventional, sustainable, and organic systems. Specializes in weed management, irrigation efficiency, and climate-resilient crop breeding.
Recent Grants: Includes projects on climate-resilient horticulture, heat-tolerant tomatoes, mycorrhizal fungal inoculation, biochar use in agriculture, and training for beginning farmers.
