Brian Price is a Professor at the University of Toronto, cross-appointed in the Department of Visual Studies. His work bridges film studies and philosophy, focusing on the aesthetic dimensions of moral/political philosophy and the history of film theory.
- PhD and MA in Cinema Studies from New York University
- BA in English from University of Maryland, College Park
Research spans ontology, color theory, avant-garde film, and political aesthetics, with a particular emphasis on French cinema. Recent projects explore shame, normative contingency, and the relation between value and wonder.
Administrative roles include Associate Director, Graduate (2022-2024) and Graduate Coordinator (2017-2020) at the Cinema Studies Institute. He co-founded the journal World Picture, contributing to discourses on media theory and philosophical aesthetics.
Publications include A Theory of Regret (2017) and Neither God nor Master: Robert Bresson and Radical Politics (2011), alongside edited volumes on Michael Haneke and color theory.
