Professor Brian Morris is a faculty member at the University of Glasgow, serving as Professor of Molecular Neurobiology within the School of Psychology & Neuroscience. His research focuses on schizophrenia mechanisms, neuronal plasticity, and neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular emphasis on protein signaling, mRNA translation, and gene transcription. He co-founded YRING and co-directs the Psychiatric Research Institute of Neuroscience (PsyRING) in collaboration with other institutions. Morris has held a Wellcome Trust University Award and contributed to over 60 publications.
His research integrates genetic, genomic, and molecular approaches to understand psychiatric diseases and synaptic plasticity. Key projects include studying the role of RhoB in synaptic plasticity, MAP kinase pathways in immune responses, and the impact of maternal immune activation on schizophrenia risk. Morris supervises postgraduate students and has secured grants from bodies like the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
Notable achievements include advancing rodent models for schizophrenia drug discovery and identifying genetic risk factors like MAP2K7. His work bridges translational research, linking preclinical findings to clinical applications in neuropsychiatric disorders.
