Brian Metcalf, PhD, is an Associate Professor-Educator in the Department of Psychology at the University of Cincinnati (since 2017) and previously held roles at Hawaii Pacific University (2000–2017) and Morris Brown College (1996–2000). He earned his PhD in Biopsychology (1999) and MS (1993) from the University of Georgia, and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point (1987).
His research focuses on neuroscience, Time Perspective Theory (collaborating with Dr. Philip Zimbardo), and heroism research through the Heroic Imagination Project. He has published over 50 articles and co-authored the Encyclopedia of Theory in Psychology (2016). Teaching specialties include Introductory Psychology, Psychobiology, and online/hybrid course development. He has received multiple awards, including three Golden Apple Awards for mentoring and technology integration, and was nominated for the Florence Denmark Faculty Advisor Award.
Metcalf advises student organizations like the Psychology Club and Psi Chi, achieving 7 consecutive “Model Chapter” statuses for Psi Chi. He contributes to university governance as a Faculty Senate member and chairs committees on human relations and part-time faculty issues. His service extends to roles like Canvas Ambassador and Women’s Volleyball Club faculty sponsor.
Recent research explores film tourism’s impact (e.g., Frozen’s effects on Norway) and data mining in cultural industries. He also investigates the therapeutic applications of Time Perspective Theory for PTSD and anxiety disorders.
