M. Brian Maple is Distinguished Professor of Physics at UC San Diego, where he earned his PhD in 1969. His experimental research explores strongly correlated electron phenomena in d- and f-electron materials, including unconventional superconductivity, heavy fermion behavior, and non-Fermi liquid physics.
Research focuses on quantum critical points in novel materials like PrOs4Sb12, where triplet-spin pairing may be mediated by electric quadrupole fluctuations. His work bridges cuprate superconductors and heavy fermion systems.
Honors include election to the National Academy of Sciences. Recent articles investigate quantum spin liquids, pressure-induced valence transitions, and pairing symmetries in uranium-based superconductors.
