Brian Lin is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Developmental, Molecular and Chemical Biology at Tufts University School of Medicine. His research focuses on airway epithelium stem cell dynamics in olfactory and respiratory systems, utilizing advanced techniques including genetic lineage tracing, CRISPR transgenesis, and transplantation assays to investigate stem cell fate control for therapeutic applications.
Dr. Lin holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Tufts University (2017) and a Bachelor of Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (2010). He completed postdoctoral training at Massachusetts General Hospital's Center for Regenerative Medicine (2017-2022).
Research Focus: His work centers on: 1) Olfactory epithelium neurogenesis using mouse models to manipulate stem cells therapeutically; 2) Respiratory epithelium dynamics via CRISPR-enabled in vitro systems; and 3) Developing in vitro sensory epithelium models for drug discovery. Major areas include stem cell plasticity, injury response mechanisms, and regeneration pathways.
Publication Trends: His 27 publications demonstrate expertise in airway stem cell biology, COVID-19 host responses, cancer epigenetics, and aging. Recent work emphasizes single-cell analyses, organoid models, and therapeutic genome editing. Key thematic clusters include: mucosal immunity, neural regeneration, and epithelial cell fate determination.
Grants & Labs: Principal investigator on two NIH grants:
- "Dissecting the Mechanism of Ionocyte Differentiation" (2019-2022)
- "Olfactory Stem and Progenitor Cell Plasticity" (2015-2017)
