Brian Keegan is an Associate Professor in the Department of Information Science at the University of Colorado Boulder, directing the Colorado Laboratory for Users, Media, and Networks (COLUMN). He holds courtesy appointments in the Department of Computer Science and affiliations with multiple institutes, including the ATLAS Institute and the American Politics Research Lab. His research focuses on computational social science, exploring online collaboration structures through platforms like Wikipedia, Reddit, and Twitter.
Education: PhD in Media, Technology, and Society from Northwestern University (2012), advised by Noshir Contractor and Darren Gergle; SB degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Science, Technology, and Society from MIT (2006).
Research interests include high-tempo collaborations, information governance, and public interest data science. His work has been funded by NSF and featured in venues like ACM CSCW and PLOS ONE, earning Best Paper awards. Notable collaborations include projects with Steep Hill Labs and Leafly.
