Brian J Soulé

Brian J Soulé is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management (RPTM) within Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development. In addition to his teaching role, he serves simultaneously as Interim Director of Outreach for the College, Assistant Director of the PGA Golf Management Program, and Director of RPTM World Campus Programs.

He holds a Ph.D. in Recreation, Park, and Tourism Management from Penn State University and an M.S. in Sport and Leisure Service Management from the University of Nevada (2009).

His research agenda centers on three interconnected themes:

• Understanding current trends and emerging challenges in the golf industry;
• Investigating the social and psychological factors that influence golf participation; and
• Designing and refining post-graduate curriculum in sport management.

These interests are translated into active grant-funded projects that explore:

• Motivations and future intentions of participants at non-traditional golf venues;
• Determinants of academic achievement among PGA Golf Management students;
• Students’ intention to successfully complete the PGA Golf Management curriculum; and
• Effects of student involvement in clubs and organizations on academic success.

Professionally, Dr Soulé maintains a close affiliation with the Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) and draws upon prior industry experience as both Assistant and Head Golf Professional at Green Hill Yacht & Country Club (Quantico, MD).
