Brian Franklin is an Adjunct Lecturer in the Clements Department of History and the University Honors Program at Southern Methodist University (SMU), and the Associate Director of the SMU Center for Presidential History. He holds a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and a B.A. from Dallas Baptist University.
His research focuses on the religious, political, and regional history of the United States in the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly the role of Protestant mission societies in shaping the early American republic. He has authored works on topics such as disestablishment of the church in New Hampshire, Baptist missions in the Mississippi Valley, and the historical impact of missionary activities.
Franklin’s articles and publications reflect interdisciplinary engagement with themes like church-state relations, religious dissent, and the intersection of faith and public life. He has contributed to journals such as American Baptist Quarterly and co-edited projects like The Collective Memory Project, which documents the George W. Bush presidency.
