Dr Brian D Sloan is an Assistant Professor in Property Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Cambridge, and a Fellow at Robinson College. His work bridges property law, family law, and comparative legal analysis across jurisdictions like England & Wales, Ireland, Australia, and Canada. He serves as Academic Secretary of the Faculty of Law and contributes to research centers including the Cambridge Family Law Centre and Cambridge Private Law Centre.
- Education: MA, LLM (Wright Rogers scholar), and PhD (Gonville & Caius College) from the University of Cambridge.
His research focuses on property law in domestic contexts, adoption and succession law, and adult social care policy. Notably, his monograph Informal Carers and Private Law won the Yorke Prize, and his work on the Care Act 2014 examines tensions between state responsibility and property rights. He has authored editions of Borkowski's Law of Succession and co-edited volumes like Spaces of Care and Landmark Cases in Succession Law.
Recent scientific awards include the Nicola Blakeman Prize and Wright Rogers Scholarship. His teaching spans Equity, Family Law, Land Law, and Succession Law. As a visiting academic, he has lectured at institutions including the National University of Singapore and Pepperdine University. His public engagement includes media interviews and participation in parliamentary discussions on disability rights.
