Brian Bloom is a Lecturer in Law at Stanford Law School. He retired in 2021 after 27 years as an Assistant Public Defender in Alameda County, specializing in criminal defense with a focus on mental health intersections. He led key units including the Training Department, Mental Health Unit, and Felony Trial Staff. Currently, he chairs Alameda County's Mental Health Advisory Board and advocates for decriminalizing mental illness.
