Professor Brian Bell is a Professor of Economics and Head of the Department of Economics at King's Business School, King's College London. He also serves as Chair of the UK's Migration Advisory Committee and a Research Associate at the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) at the London School of Economics. Previously, he held roles at the University of Oxford and the Bank of England. His research focuses on wages, inequality, and the economics of crime, including topics like CEO pay, immigration impacts, intergenerational mobility, and crime reduction through education.
His work has explored the decline in rent sharing in labor markets, income dynamics during the Covid-19 pandemic, and regional disparities in intergenerational mobility. He has contributed to policy debates on migration, crime deterrence, and economic governance. Notable projects include advising the UK government on migration policy and leading research on the socioeconomic effects of recessions.
Professor Bell has been involved in grants such as the ESRC-funded Centre for Economic Performance (2020–2025), focusing on interdisciplinary economic research. He is also a Trustee of the Nuffield Foundation, emphasizing his commitment to advancing social science research.
