Prof Peter Dolton is a Professor of Economics at the University of Sussex Business School. He holds additional roles as Senior Research Fellow at the Centre for Economic Performance (LSE) and Member of several UK Pay Review Bodies. His expertise spans Labour Economics, Applied Econometrics, and the Economics of Education. Dolton has held academic positions at multiple UK universities, including Hull, Bristol, and the London School of Economics, and has been a visiting scholar at Stanford University and the Australian National University.
Education: BA from University of Essex, MA from Warwick, PhD from Cambridge. His research focuses on minimum wage impacts, teacher labour markets, public sector pay review mechanisms, and intergenerational health outcomes like BMI transmission. Recent work addresses pandemic-related economic challenges, such as sports performance under spectator restrictions and healthcare access reforms.
Key contributions include analyzing UK public vs private sector wage dynamics, childhood obesity determinants, and the efficiency of educational systems. He has advised government bodies like DEFRA, HM Treasury, and the OECD. Current projects involve pension reforms, spatial analysis of minimum wage effects, and teacher pay-pupil performance linkages.
