Brian Arbic

Brian Arbic is a Professor at the University of Michigan's Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. His research focuses on physical oceanography, climate change, and geophysical fluid dynamics, utilizing numerical models to study ocean tides, internal waves, and atmosphere-ocean interactions.

Arbic's work bridges theoretical and applied oceanography, emphasizing global modeling of tides, energy budgets of oceanic circulation, and climate impacts on marine systems. His research group collaborates internationally to advance understanding of ocean mixing processes and their role in Earth's climate system.

Arbic founded the Coastal Ocean Environment Summer School in Nigeria and Ghana (COESSING), demonstrating commitment to global capacity building in ocean sciences. He has secured funding from Schmidt Sciences for expanding oceanographic research in Africa.
