Brett McGuire

Brett McGuire is the Class of 1943 Career Development Associate Professor of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He leads the McGuire Group, which focuses on astrochemistry, utilizing physical chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, and observational astrophysics to study the evolution of chemical ingredients for life in star and planet formation. His research combines laboratory experiments and radio astronomical observations to detect new interstellar molecules and understand their roles in cosmic chemistry.

Research Interests: The McGuire Group investigates molecular complexity in interstellar environments, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), cyclic molecules, and chiral species. They employ high-resolution rotational spectroscopy, automated spectral analysis, and machine learning to identify and characterize interstellar molecules.
