معرفی
Brett Carter, Ph.D., is a Research Professor and Group Leader at the European Neuroscience Institute (ENI) in Göttingen, Germany. His research focuses on synaptic physiology and plasticity, particularly the role of NMDA receptors in signaling synaptic depression. He leads a team using electrophysiology, 2-photon imaging, and pharmacology to study intact glutamatergic synapses.
Education:
- PhD in Neurobiology, Harvard University, 2011
- Postdoctoral training at the Vollum Institute, 2011–2017
- Undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering, Georgia Tech, 2002
Research Interests: Dr. Carter’s work examines synaptic function and plasticity mechanisms, with emphasis on NMDA receptor dynamics. His lab investigates how synaptic changes underlie learning and memory, using cutting-edge techniques to visualize and quantify ion channel activity. Recent studies have addressed sodium channel behavior during high-frequency firing and TRPM7 channel roles in apoptosis.
Grants and Labs:
- Labs: Synaptic Physiology and Plasticity Group at ENI
- Affiliated with Göttingen Neuroscience (IMPRS) and Molecular Biology of Cells (GZMB) programs
