Prof. Dr. Thomas Dresbach is a Professor of Anatomy at the University of Göttingen's School of Medicine, leading the Institute for Anatomy and Cell Biology. His research focuses on synapse formation, particularly presynaptic nerve terminal biogenesis, aiming to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying synaptopathies. He employs live imaging, molecular biology, and ultrastructural techniques to study synaptic proteins and signaling.
Education:
- Dr.rer.nat. (Biology), 1996, University of Bonn
Research Interests: Investigating how presynaptic proteins regulate synaptic function, synaptic organelle trafficking, and transsynaptic signaling. Studies include neuronal cultures and specialized synapses like auditory system giant synapses to understand synapse heterogeneity and functional adaptation.
Publications: Recent work highlights transsynaptic interactions (e.g., N-cadherin/Neuroligin-1) and presynaptic protein roles (e.g., Mover, Bassoon). Research spans synaptic vesicle dynamics, protein complex assembly, and synaptic plasticity mechanisms.
Affiliations: Part of the Göttingen Neurosciences (GGNB) programs, including Neurosciences (IMPRS), Cellular and Molecular Physiology of the Brain (CMPB), and Sensory and Motor Neuroscience.
