Brett Bourbon is a Professor of English at the University of Dallas, previously serving at Stanford University. He holds a PhD from Harvard University and a B.A. from UC Berkeley. His research focuses on 20th-century literature, philosophy, computational social science, and the philosophy of technology. He has received prestigious awards including a Fulbright Fellowship, Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship, and top teaching awards from both Stanford and UD.
His scholarly works include Everyday Poetics (2022), Jane Austen And the Ethics of Life (2022), and Finding a Replacement for the Soul (2004). Current projects involve The Kingdom of Gossip (with Prof. Renita Murimi) examining internet social dynamics and Thinking with Words (with Prof. Miguel Tamen) on literary groundwork. He also publishes poetry and short stories intermittently.
As a consultant, he advises tech companies and classical education institutions, co-founding UD's Masters of Leadership program. His work bridges literature, technology, and ethical inquiry, with notable contributions to human-computer interface studies and misinformation research.
