Brendan Steed is a PhD candidate and periodic sessional instructor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Victoria. His research focuses on noncommutative geometry under the co-supervision of Dr. Heath Emerson and Dr. Ian Putnam. He holds an MSc (2023) and a BScH with Distinction (2021) in mathematics, both from UVic, with his undergraduate thesis supervised by Dr. Jane Ye.
Education:
- PhD Candidate in Mathematics (Anticipated 2026), University of Victoria
- MSc in Mathematics (2023), University of Victoria
- BScH (Honours) in Mathematics (2021), University of Victoria
Research Interests: Brendan’s work spans noncommutative geometry, analysis, topology, and mathematical education. His doctoral thesis explores transverse decompositions of Euclidean space and the Baum-Connes conjecture, while his master’s thesis addressed the Heisenberg spectral triple and zeta functions.
Teaching & Service: As a sessional instructor, he contributes to undergraduate mathematics education at UVic. Beyond academia, he participates in lacrosse and intramural soccer.
