Brendan McCormack is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney, leading the Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery. He holds adjunct and visiting professorships at institutions worldwide, including the University of Pretoria and Ulster University. His research focuses on person-centred care, gerontology, and dementia practices, with over 600 publications. McCormack is a Fellow of multiple prestigious nursing societies and has received global awards, including the International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame (2014) and membership in the Academia Europaea (2022).
Education: D.Phil (Oxford), BSc (Hons), and certifications in nursing education and practice. His academic work emphasizes theoretical frameworks for person-centred nursing and leadership. Current projects include EU-funded initiatives on person-centred healthcare curricula and dementia leadership programs.
Research Interests: Person-centred cultures, implementation science, gerontology, and creative approaches to healthcare. He has supervised 28 doctoral students and currently mentors 11 global candidates. Awards include the Nursing Times 'Inspirational Nursing Leader' (2015) and multiple fellowships.
Grants and Collaborations: Leads projects on aged care quality (NIHR), post-stroke walking interventions, and pandemic recovery. Member of Sydney Policy Lab, Sydney Southeast Asia Centre, and the Sydney Infectious Diseases Institute.
Labs/Teams: Active in the Sydney Nursing School’s research clusters, focusing on ageing and health equity. His work bridges clinical practice, policy, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
