Brendan Hanger

Brendan Hanger is a lecturer at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES) at the Australian National University. He completed his undergraduate degree in geology, chemistry, and chemical engineering at Monash University before moving to ANU for his honours and PhD studies.

• Education: B.Sc. in Geology, Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering (Monash University); Honours and PhD in Petrology (Australian National University).

His research focuses on igneous and metamorphic systems, particularly through studies of magnetite, trace elements, and peridotite from South Africa. He has conducted high-pressure experiments and geochemical analysis using facilities like the Australian synchrotron. He also emphasizes teaching, having instructed courses such as Blue Planet, Groundwater, and Petrology.

His career has involved extensive fieldwork and collaborations across Australia, Canada, the USA, and Italy. He values the development of his students, some of whom are nearing completion of their PhDs or pursuing international opportunities.
