Brenda Gunderson is a Lecturer Emerita in the Department of Statistics at the University of Michigan, affiliated with the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. She earned her Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Michigan in 1989.
Her research focuses on statistical education, particularly leveraging technology to enhance teaching and learning. She coordinated and taught the large undergraduate course Statistics and Data Analysis, advising students in Statistics majors/minors. She received the UM Teaching Innovation Prize for integrating technology in large gateway courses and contributed to grants like Enhancing Undergraduate Education through Quality Learning Objects.
Awards include the MERLOT Award (2009) and Sloan-C Effective Practice Award (2012). She collaborated on an NSF project to expand the E2Coach system, providing tailored coaching for introductory statistics students. After retiring in 2020, she returned to teach Stats 404: Effective Communication in Statistics.
Her work emphasizes bridging pedagogy and technology in statistics education, with a focus on accessibility and student engagement.
