Brandon Thompson is an Assistant Professor and Curator of History at the University of Alabama Museums, affiliated with the Department of Museum Research & Collections. He holds a PhD (2023), MA (2009), and BA (2006) in Anthropology from the University of Alabama. Thompson’s career spans over two decades in academic archaeology and museum curation, including a decade as an archaeologist specializing in bioarchaeology with the University’s Office of Archaeological Research. He served as director and curator of the Gorgas House Museum (2018–2023), the oldest structure on campus, before assuming his current role in 2024. His research focuses on public history, international student experiences, and organizational engagement with historical resources.
Thompson’s publications emphasize museum management, historical archaeology, and bioarchaeological analysis, with notable work on tuberculosis patterns in historical populations and the revitalization of campus heritage sites. His technical reports document archaeological investigations across Alabama, addressing cultural resource management needs for municipal and corporate clients. His work bridges academic research with public outreach, emphasizing community engagement and educational programming.
