Brandon Prins is Professor of Political Science and Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. He holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University (1999) and specializes in international relations, maritime security, and political violence.

His research focuses on maritime crime, governance, and security studies, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region. Funded by the US Office of Naval Research, Y-12 National Security Complex, and the National Nuclear Security Administration, he leads a three-year Minerva grant project analyzing maritime crime and conflict in the Indo-Pacific.
Recent publications include the co-authored book Pirate Lands: Governance and Maritime Piracy (Oxford University Press, 2021). His editorial leadership includes serving as Lead Editor for International Studies Quarterly.
