Brandon Morgan-Olsen is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from the University of Washington (2010), where his dissertation, Listening in Public: Duties of Civility in a Pluralistic Democracy, explored ethical dimensions of public discourse. Prior to Loyola, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Democracy and Diversity at Queen’s University (2010–2011) and a Biological Futures Research Associate at the University of Washington (2011–2012).
His research focuses on social/political philosophy, ethics, and philosophy of science, with emphasis on public deliberation, multiculturalism, and the democratization of science. Current projects address civic duties in non-ideal contexts, climate change debates, and human rights. He teaches a wide range of courses, including ethics, political philosophy, and environmental ethics, often integrating core Loyola curriculum objectives.
Morgan-Olsen’s work has appeared in journals like Social Theory and Practice and Philosophy of the Social Sciences. He actively participates in interdisciplinary research initiatives, including exploring the intersection of science and democratic governance. His teaching philosophy emphasizes fostering critical engagement with ethical and societal issues.
