Brandee Izquierdo, DPA, MPA, is a Lecturer in Psychiatry at Yale University's Program for Recovery and Community Health (PRCH) and former fellow of the Yale Lived Experience Transformational Leadership Academy. She currently serves as the director of behavioral health programs at the Pew Charitable Trusts, leading efforts to expand evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders and improve hospital suicide prevention strategies. Dr. Izquierdo also holds board positions with the Police, Treatment, and Community Collaborative (PTACC) and the Legislative Analysis and Public Policy Association (LAPPA).
Her professional journey includes leadership roles at organizations such as Faces & Voices of Recovery, Behavioral Health System Baltimore, and Maryland’s Behavioral Health Administration. As a subject matter expert, she has contributed to public policy, workforce development, and recovery integration in criminal justice systems. Notably, she pioneered the national Integrated-Forensic Peer Recovery Specialist curriculum. Her work blends her academic focus on organizational change management with lived experience as a woman in recovery.
Dr. Izquierdo advocates for equitable, culturally inclusive systems of care through policy advocacy and community engagement. Her research emphasizes peer worker integration in drug court settings and systemic readiness for change. She holds a bachelor’s in Government and Public Policy, a master’s in Public Administration, and a doctorate in Public Administration, all focused on behavioral health and criminal justice system reform.
