His recent docudrama Year One: Through the Eyes of Family Medicine exemplifies this approach, having been crafted using real interviews with Family Medicine Physicians regarding their first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. His work bridges academic theater studies with practical community engagement, emphasizing theater's role in facilitating difficult conversations around medical ethics and social issues.
As artistic director of Creative Arts Production, Huffman leads a summer theater program for children in Missouri. At Northwestern College, his alma mater, he co-founded The SchoolHouse Theater, demonstrating his commitment to creating accessible performance spaces. His direction of community-engaged theater at Loma Linda University further illustrates his dedication to using theater as a medium for social impact, particularly through works that address relevant and controversial topics.
