Bradford J. Garvey

Bradford J. Garvey is an Assistant Professor of Music at Brandeis University, specializing in ethnomusicology. He holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from The Graduate Center, CUNY (2019). His research examines the moral economy of praise singing in Oman's Sultanate and Iraqi Maqām traditions.

His fieldwork in Oman (2015-2017) was funded by the Wenner-Gren Foundation. Previously, he served as Visiting Assistant Professor in Music at Amherst College (2019-2020). His publications appear in Asian Music, Journal of Linguistic Anthropology, and Yale Journal of Music & Religion.
