Research Interests: Doll specializes in African political and urban anthropology, focusing on South Sudan since its independence in 2011. His work examines ethnic identity, humanitarian governance, sovereignty, and futurity in urban contexts. Current projects include a book manuscript on South Sudan's urban development and a collaborative study of a South Sudanese money-transfer network challenging aid dependency. He also partners with Ugandan artist Okuja Vincent on a visual anthropology project documenting post-conflict youth experiences.
Teaching: Courses include Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Urban Anthropology, and an upcoming summer research course, Researching the City, where students engage in ethnographic fieldwork in Raleigh.
Recognition: His research has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Recent publications explore placemaking in Juba, sovereignty dynamics in post-independence South Sudan, and economic precarity in urban spaces.
