Brad Lubman is a Professor of Conducting & Ensembles and Chair of the Conducting & Ensembles Department at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester. He is also Director of Eastman Musica Nova and Founding Co-Artistic Director/Conductor of Ensemble Signal. Renowned for his expertise in contemporary music, Lubman has conducted major orchestras globally, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Ensemble Intercontemporain. His compositions have been performed by ensembles like the Tonkünstler Orchester Austria and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. He received the 2019 Ditson Conductor’s Award for championing American music and led Ensemble Signal to critical acclaim with a Diapason d’or-winning recording of Steve Reich’s work. Lubman’s career spans performance, composition, and pedagogy, including faculty roles at the Bang on a Can Summer Institute.
Research interests focus on contemporary orchestral repertoire, new music ensemble techniques, and the intersection of composition and conducting. His creative output includes works for orchestra and chamber ensembles, with premieres such as a 2020 piece for Rudolf Buchbinder at Vienna Musikverein.
Awards highlight his contributions to contemporary music performance, including the Ditson Award and Grammy-nominated recordings.
