Dr. Boudewijn Beltman is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Utrecht University, specializing in wetland ecology and restoration. His work focuses on fen meadow dynamics, biodiversity conservation, and the interplay between hydrology, nutrient cycles, and plant communities. He is affiliated with the Ecology and Biodiversity research group within the Faculty of Science.
- Expertise includes: wetland restoration, plant functional traits, carbon dynamics, and land-use impacts on ecosystems
- Active in interdisciplinary projects linking hydrology, biogeochemistry, and conservation strategies
- Lead author on over 40 peer-reviewed publications since 2000
Research highlights include studies on: phosphate release mechanisms in flooded fens, wind-driven seed dispersal in water bodies, and the effects of nutrient enrichment on shoreline ecosystems. He collaborates internationally on restoration projects and has presented at major conferences like the INTECOL Wetlands Conference and WETPOL Conference.
His work emphasizes practical applications of ecological knowledge, such as the Operational Landscape Unit approach for fen conservation and the Project Management Office Maturity Model for academic institutional frameworks.
