Bonnie Thomas is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of European Languages and Cultures at The University of Western Australia (UWA). She specializes in Francophone Caribbean literature, gender studies, and teaching pedagogy. Her research focuses on themes of history, memory, trauma, and identity in contemporary French Caribbean works. She has held significant roles such as Acting Chair of Modern European Languages, Vice President of Women in French Australia, and member of UWA’s Teaching Awards Committee.
Thomas holds a PhD in French Studies and History from UWA and has taught French language, literature, and francophone studies at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She has received numerous teaching accolades, including the Australian Awards for University Teaching Citation (2017) and multiple UWA Excellence in Teaching Awards. Her current research includes an academic biography of Beverley Ormerod Noakes, a pioneer in francophone Caribbean literature.
She has contributed to editorial roles for journals like Essays in French Literature and Culture and The French Review, and has led grants such as the UWA Research Accelerator Scheme (2019). Her work intersects with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to education and gender equality.
