Bonnie Swaine is a Full Professor in the Department of Physiotherapy at the School of Rehabilitation, Université de Montréal, and Co-Director of the Interdisciplinary Research Center in Rehabilitation (CRIR). Her research focuses on traumatic brain injury (TBI) rehabilitation, quality of care evaluation, and community participation for individuals with disabilities.
Education: B.Sc. in Physiotherapy (McGill University, 1982), M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences (Université de Montréal, 1991 and 1996), and postdoctoral training in epidemiology at McGill University.
Research Interests: TBI outcomes, rehabilitation service design, measurement tools for disability, dance therapy for neurorehabilitation, and living lab initiatives to enhance social inclusion. She leads projects such as the Rehabilitation Living Lab and collaborates on national guidelines for TBI care.
Grants: Over 20 projects funded by Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), Fonds de Recherche du Québec (FRSQ), and others, totaling millions in grants. Notable projects include the BRILLIANT project and pandemic preparedness for brain injury services.
Labs/Teams: CRIR, Rehabilitation Living Lab, and interdisciplinary teams addressing TBI and mobility challenges. She mentors over 30 graduate students and has co-authored numerous clinical guidelines.
