Bonnie Shishko

Dr. Bonnie Shishko serves as an Assistant Professor in the English & Writing Studies Department at Queens College, City University of New York (CUNY), within the College of Arts & Sciences. She teaches Literary Studies courses in the English Department and literature and first-year writing courses in the General Education program.
Her educational background includes:
- Ph.D. in English from Indiana University, Bloomington
- M.A. in English from St. John’s University, Queens, NY
- B.A. in English from St. John’s University, Queens, NY
Dr. Shishko's research focuses on Victorian literature and culture, feminist and queer theory, disability studies, and food writing. She examines intersections of food, gender, and sexuality in Victorian and contemporary women's writing, with current work analyzing constructions of (dis)ability in nineteenth-century invalid cookbooks. Her scholarship reveals how care communities were historically articulated through culinary practices.
As co-founder and director of QLIT (Queens Literary Studies Undergraduate Research Program), she mentors English majors in developing original research and presenting at academic conferences including SAMLA. She serves on the Board of the Victorians Institute and contributes to scholarly communities through editorial and advisory roles.
