Dr. Bonnie Sheehey is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History & Philosophy at the University of Montana, within the College of Letters & Science. Her work bridges philosophy and technology studies with ethical and political dimensions. She holds a B.A. (2011) from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, an M.A. (2014), and a Ph.D. (2019) in Philosophy from the University of Oregon.
Her research interests focus on Ethics, Philosophy of Technology, Social & Political Philosophy, American Pragmatism (especially William James), and 20th Century Continental Philosophy. She explores themes like reparative critique, Foucault’s genealogy, and the intersection of technology with societal norms.
Recent intellectual contributions highlight her engagement with critical theory, historical philosophy, and applied ethics. Her 2024 paper on Foucault’s methodologies and 2022 analysis of James’s pragmatism exemplify this interdisciplinary approach.
She has received multiple awards including the Research Enhancement Award (2024) and Research Incubator Award (2023). She actively serves as a reviewer for journals like Journal for the Philosophy of History, Hypatia, and Theory & Event, and volunteers with organizations promoting literacy and philosophical education.
