Bonnie Layton serves as Honors Director and Senior Lecturer at Indiana University's Media School with over 25 years of journalism experience. She teaches a wide range of courses covering multimedia production, graphic design, data visualization, and emerging media technologies.

Her research interests focus on the intersection of journalism and technology, particularly in immersive storytelling, data visualization, and responsive web design. She has pioneered courses in 360-degree filming and virtual reality journalism, with her immersive journalism course being one of only 11 university projects nationwide selected for an Online News Association Challenge grant in 2015.
Her scholarly work includes the chapter 'Mapping the Diffusion of 311 Call Systems' published in Visual Insights (MIT Press, 2014), co-authored with Steve Layton and James True. She has also collaborated with the Center of Excellence for Women in Technology on data analysis projects examining gender issues in technology fields.

Layton directs the Media School's Honors program and serves as advisor for the IU Chapter of the Online News Association. She has led international travel courses to France, London, and Normandy as part of 'In the Footsteps of Ernie Pyle,' and has chaperoned journalism trips to Vancouver, Japan, and Hawaii. Her industry experience includes significant roles at the Chicago Sun-Times and Chicago Tribune, where she worked as a designer, videographer, copy editor, and graphic artist.
